I don’t think you would meet anyone that would suggest that we’re not, or that it’s coming and it’s not quite here yet. I know those conversations have happened in the past because I’ve been in rooms where they’ve happened. But now, in 2023 and since the pandemic, I don’t think that anyone would argue that we are in a digital age, and it is so important.
So, what digital marketing does for your business is it is the bridge that connects your business to your target audience. It’s the lifeline, if you will, creating a good, strong online presence that will engage your target market. Being where they’re going to be spending most of their time online is clearly key. And like I said, it’s really not whether you want to participate or not. You are participating. Your business is online, hence the digital age. It’s just how well you’re doing it or if you’re engaging at all proactively.
So, how can we effectively attract customers? To be honest with you, it’s kind of the most exciting part of what we do, and it’s my absolute favorite thing. And that’s effective strategy. These are some of our tried-and-true methods when it comes to digital marketing to ensure that you can optimize your business and engage in an authentic way.
The first thing to do is building an effective online presence through your website as well as your social media platforms. They are your storefront or your brick and mortar, even if you have a brick and mortar. They are an additional location for your business, and that’s how you should approach them. Make sure they’re welcoming, informative, and user-friendly. There’s no way around that. Those three checkboxes definitely need to be marked.
The next step is to look at your content marketing strategies. There is nothing more important than content. It is so valuable, not only up front in building a relationship but also long-term in building trust with your potential and existing customers. Your content needs to be authentic and represent your brand well. So, that takes a little bit of preparation. But some topics and some directions that you can go to ensure that you’re using content marketing correctly include producing informative blog posts and creating videos that are around your business or the services that you offer or the topic that your business is based around. However, the biggest key that needs to be in all content you produce is whether it resonates with your potential or your target market. That’s key.

If you’re serving your customers well, there is a good way to ask for a review that your customers will gladly give you. The next step is local SEO. This is kind of community-based. So, you’ve got Google My Business or Google Maps, as well as being involved in your community and making sure that it appears in searches in the service areas that you’re offering. If you’re in a larger city market, that may look a little bit different and be a bit more challenging than if you’re in a smaller market. Those smaller markets are very easy to optimize and be found when people are looking for you, even if it is in this small market but you service this area. It still is easier to optimize if you’re in a large metropolitan area. There are tactics to ensure that you’re reaching your target audience, and that’s how you’re going to narrow your field, understanding your audience and your potential and your ideal customer better and better and better, and that will drive ROI way up.
Influencer marketing, if you do this well, it is so valuable. It needs to be a relationship between influencers. It is vital these days. If you can find the balance in the relationship, find somewhere that you feel you’re adding value to their platform as well as they are adding value to yours, a good influencer can be the endorsement that opens the door to a wider audience of your target demographic. But a wider audience that’s going to be more in a referral manner. It’s just incredibly valuable. So, if you can find a good relationship and start cultivating that, I’m a huge proponent of community and relationship. I suggest that you start putting those feet one foot in front of the other to start that process. Not all influencers are made the same, and not everyone is a good fit for your business. So, start those conversations now.
Additionally, having the last piece of your digital marketing efforts is just having your reward system built in for your customers. This is a great opportunity to do some solid email marketing and build some loyalty within your customers. This is not just for restaurants and retail. This is for everyone. How are you rewarding and building a deeper relationship with your customers? Start mapping that out. Think of how you want to implement it, and just start. Just start. Just get going on that process. It does take a little bit of preparation, but it’s well worth it.
Now that we’ve kind of outlined some of our strategies that we go through when we’re building out additional marketing campaigns, I do want to talk about the importance, however, of tracking your analytics, your insights on social media, understanding the behaviors of your target audience, understanding how you can optimize your website and optimize your ads to put what people want to see in front of them faster. So, paying attention and doing your due diligence to monitor those things will not only benefit you but it’ll produce happier customers in the end.
Make sure, before you start all of this, that you identify some KPIs, some key performance indicators. If you are partnering with an agency or if you’re doing all of this in-house, make sure that before you begin, you have the goal in mind and that you have some benchmarks set so that you’re able to go back and say, ‘Okay, is this effective? Is this working? Is it doing all that I need it to do?’
