I want to talk to you for a quick second about SEO, which is obviously a very big buzzword whenever it comes to websites and being online. Really, what I wanted to talk about today was the different kinds of SEO, and there are three basic kinds of SEO with a fourth one that’s kind of thrown in there.

The first one is on-page SEO. This is your content. This is the internal linking structure when you link from one page of your website to another. There’s a strategy that goes into all of that, making it so that when Google or another search engine looks at your website, they can easily find everything. This includes your heading structure: H1s, H2s, H3s, and so on. All of these things are actually on the page that you have full control over.

Then, there’s what’s called off-page engagement or off-page SEO.

Next, there’s off-page SEO. This is stuff that we aren’t fully in control of. These are backlinks, and these are people that are linking to your website from outside and pointing to your content. Not always do we have full control over it, but it is something that we have partial control over because we can really focus on backlinking efforts. All of this matters because when their site is ranked and their site gets indexed on Google, it also points to your site, and therefore your site gets some juice from that.

The third type is technical SEO. This is really deep into the code, and this is the structure of your site. If you’re using WordPress, a lot of this is already taken care of. But really, kind of in a sticker-type of way, it’s the same as every other WordPress site if you don’t edit it, if you don’t manage it. So, this is really more of a technical type of SEO that requires not just effort but also some technical know-how.

Then, the fourth one that we add in there sometimes is local SEO. This is kind of a misnomer because local SEO is something entirely different from on-page, off-page, or technical SEO. Local SEO is really just all three of those aimed at a particular location. It’s not just general; in our case, we’re not just doing marketing, we’re doing marketing in this particular city or this particular state or this particular region. That’s really what local SEO is aimed at and pointed at – trying to get your business not just found anywhere in the world, but found in a particular geographical spot.
